Joseph Cornell research

Cornell, Joseph (1903-72). American sculptor, one of the pioneers and most celebrated exponents of assemblage.

He had no formal training in art and his most characteristic works are his highly distinctive `boxes'. These are simple boxes, usually glass-fronted, in which he arranged surprising collections of photographs or Victorian bric-à-brac in a way that has been said to combine the formal austerity of Constructivism with the lively fantasy of Surrealism. Like Kurt Schwitters he could create poetry from the commonplace. Unlike Schwitters, however, he was fascinated not by refuse, garbage, and the discarded, but by fragments of once beautiful and precious objects, relying on the Surrealist technique of irrational juxtaposition and on the evocation of nostalgia for his appeal (he befriended several members of the Surrealist movement who settled in the USA during the Second World War). Cornell also painted and made Surrealist films. (info from http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/cornell/)

These are 2 of Cornell's works which I found interesting. The first use's much more text than his old work, but I think is most appealing as he used a variation of fonts and much lighter colours compared to most of his other boxes.

Second Life synopsis

I spent 4 weeks on Second life. Experimenting with the virtual world.
I began by creating my charector, I found this pretty basic. I chose a set charector for a option on 4/5, then I decided to edit the charector to resemble myself. This is where I came to my first issue with second life. My charector was a chinese man dressed as a goth. And however I tried editing him nothing would change, I ouldnt change the colour of his skin or his clothes. The only thing I found that was editble was his hair, so I was left with the same charector I began with.
After a few hours on second life I lernt to fly and teleport to different areas in second life. I came across a shop which you could buy new clothes. Again I coudnt do this as you needed money to purchase new clothing. This became annoying as i couldnt work out how to make money, apart from putting in your own money which I wasnt wanting to do.
But I found teleporting to dirrent areas in second life quite interesting as you could meet difernt types of charectors. I went to a Brazillian night club which was quite confusing as everyone was speaking to me in portugese and the only reply I had for them was "do you speak english".
In conclusion I think if I had a bit more time on Second life and some more knowledge I would enjoy using it a lot more as ive seen there is a lot to do on it.

AVATAR SCREENS

This is an image of my full environment.
i think the texture son the blue walls and the floor boards make the enviroment look quite real.
Also the images on the wall makes the room look more detailed and less boring.
But looking at this image the lighting could have been better as the top half of the room looks too bright compared to the bottom half.

AVATAR SCREENS

This is a detailed screenshot of the desk.
Also on the bottom left is a part of the chair. at the top is half an image of some of my Graphic design work.

3D MAX SCREEN SHOTS

Image of the desk I created. I think the desk turned out pretty well, as I used basic shapes. Mapping allowed me to make a realistic macbook, and makes the desk look detailed.

3D MAX SCREEN SHOTS

An image of my Avatar.
The pencil will bounce across the room.
i decided to make the avatar a bit more simple and look like a normal one.
I think i could have added a bit more colour to it though as it looks a bit too dark compared to the rest of the environment.

ENVIRONMENT DESIGNS

This is a sketch of the desk. I have used simple shapes for the desk and lamp, therefore it shouldn't be too difficult to create to 3D max.

ENVIRONMENT DESIGNS (CHANGES)

I decided to change my environment to 1 room rather than 2. As the environment will look more detailed.
Im going to use Blue for the walls and Brown floorboards.

ENVIRONMENT DESIGNS

This is the 1st idea I had. My aim was to create an art studio. I have including a desk including a Mac book, a lamp, pencils, a chairs as well as images of art work on the walls.
The Avatar will be the pencil, which will bounce around the whole room, this will allow me to give a more detailed view of the environment.

AVATAR DESIGNS

These are images of my first sketches for my Avatar.
I wanted to create my avatar based on art. So I began drawing images of pencils, paint brushes and Spray cans.
I Chose to use the Pencil as my avatar as I like drawing most, and thought it would be easiest to create and animate.
